Columbia-based Bluebird Network LLC, which purchased SpringNet Underground from City Utilities in December, today announced plans to expand the data center.
The expansion, which starts this month, would more than double the center’s data storage space. Slated for completion by mid-2017, the project would comprise three phases and add 16,000 square feet of raised floor to the facility, according to a news release.
Now known as Bluebird Underground, the data center currently sits at 13,500 square feet.
“This expansion will allow us to accommodate the growing demand for existing and new data center customers,” Bluebird Network President and CEO Michael Morey said in the release of the project to be conducted by Schneider Electric.
Bluebird paid $8.4 million for SpringNet Underground. In the deal, the company received CU’s physical server racks, cages and associated mechanical equipment, its over 80 client contracts and a lease with privately owned Springfield Underground.
Panelists share rewards, need for caution with technology.
