BKD, KPM slip on top accounting firms list

Posted online

Springfield-based businesses BKD LLP and KPM CPAs PC fared worse this year on Inside Public Accounting’s annual list of the top U.S. firms — despite posting year-over-year revenue increases.

BKD ranked No. 13, down from its No. 12 placement on the 2018 list, based on net revenue of $662.9 million. That’s a 7% increase in revenue compared with the prior year, according to the IPA list released this week.

BKD had held a spot on the top 10 for 12 years until 2013, when the company was bumped to No. 12 from No. 10. It peaked at No. 7 in 2001, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

KPM this year ranked No. 237, which was down nine spots from No. 228 on the 2018 list. The company reported a 4.9% bump in net revenue to $16.1 million.

“KPM is honored to once again be named among the top firms in the U.S. — a distinction only one other southwest Missouri firm holds,” said Randall Moots, KPM managing shareholder, in a news release. “2019 continues to be a great year for the firm; we’ve focused on expanding our services, further investing in technology and continuing to enhance our dynamic firm culture.”

The top five IPA firms, which all retained their ranks from the previous year, are:
• New York-based Deloitte LLP, with $19.9 billion in net revenue;
• New York-based PricewaterhouseCoopers, $16.8 billion;
• New York-based EY, $14 billion;
• New York-based KPMG LLP, $9.5 billion; and
• Chicago-based RSM US LLP, $2.4 billion.
