BKD buys Chicago firm

Springfield-based BKD LLP expanded its health care industry supply chain business with the purchase of a Chicago company.

The deal for Strategic Sourcing Results closed April 16 for undisclosed terms, according to a news release. SSR is merging into BKD's health care performance advisory services group.

"With the addition of SSR to our firm, we’re able to expand our service capabilities related to supply chain, turnaround and margin improvement," said BKD partner Steve LaFrance, who leads the health care group, in the release. "I was immediately impressed with the culture, team quality and proven results at SSR.”

BKD's health care group has more than 500 employees, including former hospital executives, who work with organizations to identify cost-saving measures and other improvements, according to its website.

Three employees joined BKD as part of the acquisition, including SSR President and CEO Peter Stille, said BKD Chief Marketing Officer Greg Cole. Stille is serving as a managing director for BKD, said Cole, noting the employees relocated to the Springfield company’s downtown Chicago office.

“BKD has a great reputation in the health care industry," Stille said in the release. "I have admired BKD’s culture and thought leadership for several years."

The acquisition follows a deal last month in which BKD bought Indianapolis-based restructuring and business advisory services company Hamernik LLC, according to past reporting.

BKD, which has more than 2,900 employees nationwide, reported fiscal 2020 revenue of roughly $700 million, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
