Assistant US attorney moves to private practice

A longtime assistant U.S. attorney has retired from his federal government role and transitioned to private law.

Abe McGull this month opened The McGull Law Firm LLC, focusing on white-collar and criminal defense, personal injury, mediation and traffic law, according to a news release. He previously served 21 years as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Department of Justice before his Dec. 31 retirement.

"That is exactly the amount of time I spent in the U.S. Navy before retiring from the Department of Defense," McGull said via email. "It was always my plan to return to private practice some day and 21 seemed like a good time to pull chocks."

The McGull Law Firm operates out of Plaza Towers, according to the release.

McGull additionally serves as a member of Springfield City Council. He was in the 2019 class of Springfield Business Journal's Men of the Year.

Prior to becoming an assistant U.S. attorney, McGull operated a private practice firm that worked in personal injury, corporate collections and criminal defense law, according to the release.

“I genuinely like helping people navigate the legal issues they face on a daily basis,” he said in the release.
