Arts school in danger of closing again

Donations and stimulus funds have kept Conservatory of the Ozarks open for the past year, but now, the owner says money is running low for the pivate children’s arts school.

In a video posted last week to Conservatory of the Ozarks' GoFundMe crowdfunding page, owner Heather Leverich said the arts school needs about 160 students enrolled in lesson slots to cover its overhead. At the end of September, there were 67 lesson slots filled, she said.

"This is the month that we will run out of our donation money," Leverich said in the video. "As of now, I don't know how we'll pay our bills when the donation money runs out."

She said as the arts school currently stands, it would fall more than $2,000 short of paying its monthly bills starting in November.

Conservatory of the Ozarks is seeking donations, including a potential "miracle to help us stay open," Leverich said.

It was a similar story a year ago, when business owners Jon and Dawnna Morris stepped in to help Conservatory of the Ozarks stay open. Earlier this year, they made another donation to help keep the school open longer in 2021, according to the GoFundMe page. The GoFundMe has $3,050 raised toward a $15,000 goal.

Founded more than a decade ago, Conservatory of the Ozarks was a 2010 finalist for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Award.
