American Airlines agreed to buy up to 20 supersonic jets.
The company placed a nonrefundable deposit on the planes from manufacturer Boom Supersonic. The financial terms were undisclosed.
Slated to debut in 2029, the planes would take passengers from New York to London in about three and one-half hours.
