Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines Group (Nasdaq: AAL) is adding a new seasonal flight at Springfield-Branson National Airport.
The route between the Springfield airport and Miami International Airport in Florida is scheduled to start Feb. 15, 2025, and last through March 29, 2025, according to a news release. The flight path would run on Saturdays.
“American looks forward to offering nonstop service between Springfield and our Miami hub in time for spring break next year,” said Jason Reisinger, American’s managing director of global network planning, in the release. "For travelers looking to go to Miami or beyond to one of more than 80 destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, American’s flight is conveniently scheduled to give customers flexibility to plan their next sunny vacation.”
Springfield airport spokesperson Kent Boyd said the flight to Miami is a first for the local airport. Noting the flights would be conducted on 76-seat aircraft, Boyd said that while there's no indication from American that this will be an ongoing route, airlines sometimes start new seasonal service to test the viability of the route.
The Springfield airport's website indicates American provides nonstop flights from Springfield to Charlotte, Chicago and Dallas. The Springfield airport also has service from Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
