A newly released report by Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) puts the e-commerce company's economic impact in Missouri in the billions of dollars.
Amazon invested more than $5.3 billion in Missouri since 2010, creating over 11,000 jobs statewide in its operations and logistics functions, according to a news release. Amazon's 1.3 million-square-foot Republic fulfillment center opened in September 2021 with 1,400 employees, and the company also has a warehouse in Springfield, according to past reporting.
“For 30 years, Amazon has made meaningful investments across the U.S. that have contributed over $1 trillion to the American economy since 2010 alone,” said Holly Sullivan, vice president of worldwide economic development at Amazon, in the release. “Our focus on delivering for our customers has led us to invest across the country, in communities big and small."
Amazon lists its primary Missouri investments as seven fulfillment and sortation centers, 10 delivery stations, four Whole Foods Market locations and three solar farms.
Research conducted by Amazon economists additionally found a typical mid-size community that receives an investment by Amazon has, on average, 4,400 more new jobs than a similar county that did not, according to the release. The median household income increased by 2.2% in counties that received investments, the researchers found.
The scores have been tabulated for Springfield Business Journal’s 2025 Dynamic Dozen, recognizing the 12 fastest-growing companies in the Ozarks.
