Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's bankruptcy filing yesterday left many Springfieldians wondering about the fate of the local theater.
Tim League, founder and executive chairperson of Alamo, said "it will not be closing" in an email to Springfield Business Journal this morning.
"We look forward to serving our guests again soon in Springfield," he said.
The 4005 South Ave. theater has been temporarily closed off and on for the past year due to the coronavirus pandemic. It briefly reopened in August for two months. Alamo Drafthouse Springfield launched in June 2017 at the former Campbell 16 Cine, which closed in mid-2016.
In the bankruptcy filing, Austin, Texas-based Alamo listed estimated assets and liabilities each in the range of $100 million to $500 million.
As part of the bankruptcy process, Alamo disclosed the sale of substantially all of its assets in a deal involving Altamont Capital Partners and affiliates of Fortress Investment Group.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
