The Springfield-Branson National Airport is looking toward a year-end passenger push through the addition of new routes.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel Co.'s (Nasdaq: ALGT) nonstop flights to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and the Punta Gorda Airport in Florida start Nov. 19, according to a news release. The routes were announced over the summer.

The flights bring the Springfield airport's nonstop destination count to 15 and come as it seeks to bring passenger counts back to pre-pandemic levels.

Through September this year, the airport recorded 698,081 passengers, a 21% decrease from the same nine-month time period in 2019, according to the release. The Springfield airport in 2019 had a passenger record of 1.2 million flyers, before the pandemic took its toll on traffic in 2020, according to past reporting.

"The addition of the new Allegiant routes should help the Springfield airport endure the pandemic economy as customers slowly return to flying," officials said in the release.
