An economic contribution study from the Missouri Department of Agriculture sheds light on the industry's impact locally.
During 2021, agriculture, forestry and related industries added $1.9 billion in economic value in Greene County, according to a news release.
"The results of this study show how impactful agriculture is for families and communities in every corner of the state,." Gov. Mike Parson said in the release. "Agriculture benefits every Missourian, and we are so fortunate to be part of the Missouri farming community.”
In total, agriculture, forestry and related industries contributed nearly $94 billion to the statewide economy during 2021. The report showed one in every 10 jobs across the state is supported by agriculture.
In Greene County, the industry supported 20,972 jobs during 2021, according to the report. The industry contributed $1.6 billion in household income, as well as $5.2 billion in output.
In each of the categories, dairy was the top contributor locally.
On the state level, jobs contribution rose by 78,386 from the previous study conducted in 2016. Compared with the prior study, output contribution rose by $5.3 billion, and valued-added contribution jumped by $1.9 billion.
Mercy Springfield Communities relocated a clinic; San Clemente, California-based law firm Gilson Daub Inc. expanded to the Springfield market; and a second video gaming center for Contender eSports Springfield LLC opened in the Queen City.
