Commercial Street improvements to the tune of $523,000 are scheduled to begin next week.
Hunter Chase & Associates Inc. is serving as general contractor for the project that calls on alleyway and parking lot upgrades, according to a news release. The project is slated for completion by late October.
Starting Aug. 24, Hunter Chase is slated to begin work improving the Dr. Tickle Alleyway, located between Campbell and Boonville avenues. That will be followed by the C-Street Market Alleyway, between Roberson and Jefferson avenues, and a public parking lot at Blaine Street and Jefferson Avenue.
Lighting improvements, parking lot resurfaces, stormwater and water quality upgrades, stamped crosswalks and other decorative elements are part of the project's scope, according to the release.
The improvements follow city efforts to gauge resident feedback for the use of tax increment financing funds along Commercial Street; the project was approved by Springfield City Council at its July 27 meeting. The project is funded by the TIF, as well as the quarter-cent capital improvement sales tax.
The C-Street TIF was enacted in June 2009 with the purpose of recruiting and retaining businesses to the district, as well as marketing, landscaping and cleaning parking lots and sidewalks, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
