4 companies win top awards at SBJ's Coolest Things

Sixteen companies' products were on display yesterday at Springfield Business Journal's second-annual Coolest Things Made in the Ozarks event, and four took home top awards.

27North Inc., College of the Ozarks, EaglePicher Technologies LLC and Flora Farms LLC w ere selected for the top awards at the event held at the Barley House at Moon Town Crossing.

Flora Farms won Best in Show honors for its Garlic, Mushroom and Onion Cannabis Flower. Best in Show was selected by a live audience vote, and roughly 17% of the tally went to Flora Farm's GMO product.

"Until about three months ago, it was against the law. Nobody else in here can say that. Three years ago, it was against the law for everybody," President Mark Hendren said of GMO at the event, referring to recreational and medical marijuana legalization, respectively. "It's the newest and the coolest, we think."

C of O students took home the Voters' Choice Award for Student-Made Apple Butter. It received the most votes in polling before the event, with 440 votes out of around 1,700 votes in the SBJ contest.

Receiving the Innovation Award was 27North for its Expedition Truck: 30A Ascender. Event judges picked the company for taking something that already exists and making it better.

The Impact Award, given to celebrate a company for "doing well while also doing good," went to EaglePicher Technologies. The company's power module for U.S. Air Force and Navy aircraft emergency ejection seats was on display at the event.

• Messiah Locomotive Service LLC, Locomotive wheelsets;
• Paul Mueller Co., maxxLup Beverage Infusion System;
• The Coffee Ethic LLC, Spiced Vanilla Oat Latte bottles;
• Walrus Oil, Logger’s Lip Balm and Hand Salve; and
• White River Marine Group LLC, 2023 Bass Tracker Classic XL.
