4 by 4 Brewing Co. sets opening date in Fremont Hills

Springfield-based 4 by 4 Brewing Co. LLC has set a launch date for its new location in the Fremont Hills area between Ozark and Nixa.

March 4 is the scheduled grand opening at 9903 Sawgrass Ave. in Nixa, according to a company Facebook post yesterday. A page for the event, which includes live music, on-site food trucks and vendors, also has been created.

4 by 4 broke ground on the 12,000-square-foot brewery, taproom and event center in August 2021, according to past reporting. Stinson Building Co. served as general contractor for the project designed by Torgerson Design Partners LLC. Past Springfield Business Journal reporting put the project cost at $2 million.

4 by 4 Brewing announced its second location in spring 2021. Its first location opened in Galloway Village in 2017.

"We feel like we can hit a market that isn't coming into Springfield as much as we think they are," co-owner Derek Shimeall said at the time. "The growth out there is huge. We think it's an opportunity to capture some of that traffic."

4 by 4 Brewing ranked No. 3 on SBJ’s list this year of the area's largest breweries. The company reported 1,800 barrels produced in 2022, a 13% increase from 2021. Mother’s Brewing Co. topped the list, producing 8,039 barrels.

In an interview last year, Shimeall projected the brewery’s growth over the next three to five years.

“We feel that if we get into a statewide distribution platform, along with our two taprooms, that would be equivalent to around 9,000-10,000 barrels,” he said.
