Justin Coyan knows that sometimes you must work outside office hours and be ready to be a problem solver for clients when you are a trusted insurance adviser.
Coyan says, during his time as a private client adviser and a personal lines manager at Ollis/Akers/Arney, he has learned how to get the ball rolling. One time, he says he had to help a client who had an urgent claim on the weekend while they were out of the country on vacation.
“They had been notified that their basement at their lake home was under water, and the client was trying to figure out how to mitigate the situation from far away,” he says. “The client was calling me for advice, but I jumped into action and started calling environmental mitigation companies, trying to see who could respond immediately. With two phone calls, I was able to get a company headed to their home and was able to relieve them of the burden of occupying their vacation.”
He says through his role, he has to be proactive and assess clients’ needs while educating them on industry trends to help them manage a complex risk profile.
In the private client group, each person or family has a customized risk management plan, which he monitors regularly so that clients can focus on their lives.
In 2023, Coyan sold over $3 million in annual premiums and managed 175 clients.
He says he works with clients on personal risk insurance, but also on a long-term planning strategy.
“Frequently I am asked by an insured to examine a potential risk they could be taking, whether that’s a unique business venture they are investing in, an item they are purchasing or gifting to others, travel situations as well as life insurance, long-term care and disability needs,” he says.
As the industry continues to change, Coyan uses professional organizations as one way to continue building his skills and sharing his skills with other professionals in the industry. He is a member of the Missouri Association of Independent Insurance Agents and engaged with the Beyond Insurance Global Network.
Outside of helping clients and managing personal lines, Coyan is involved in volunteering to further education opportunities at Logan-Rogersville schools. It’s his third year on the board of education and the board of directors for the education foundation.
