2024 Trusted Advisers: John Davis

Forvis Mazars LLP

Posted online

John Davis makes it his business to ensure his clients’ overall financial well-being is on the right track.

A managing adviser with Forvis Mazars LLP, Davis focuses on financial planning, retirement income planning and tax planning. He reported 2023 assets under management of $115 million for 65 clients, which compares with $60 million for 50 clients in 2021.

“Through my expertise and guidance, my clients gain the confidence and clarity needed to achieve their goals in the most efficient manner possible,” Davis says. “By providing unbiased advice that prioritizes their best interests, I help them navigate complex financial landscapes, ultimately giving them peace of mind.”

Davis says his work has enabled clients to optimize their retirements by maximizing tax efficiencies and by allowing them to leave behind legacy plans.

“My clients trust me to be a reliable partner in their financial journey, allowing them to focus on their personal and professional aspirations without the constant worry about their financial stability,” Davis says.

Davis says he’s also working to build a reputation as a problem-solver. He says some in his industry use the “I’m busy” excuse for complex problems, but he prefers to tackle those worries head-on.

“When my clients bring me an old stock certificate, ask a question I have not yet seen in practice or I notice a distribution from an account was incorrectly coded, I make it personal to solve the problem,” he says. “Whether I can directly solve the problem at hand, or if another professional needs to be brought into the picture, my clients can feel comfortable starting with me.”

Davis is a member of Forvis Mazars’ financial planning committee, helping advisers firm-wide utilize resources.

In the community, Davis serves as board treasurer for Springfield Little Theatre, and he’s partnered with Missouri State University’s financial planning program to provide pro bono financial services to students. He’s an active volunteer with Community Partnership of the Ozarks Inc., preparing tax returns for free for individuals in need, and he’s a member of Community Foundation of the Ozarks Inc.’s Professional Advisors Council and the Financial Planning Association.

“My involvement in these organizations allows me to stay connected with the community, contribute to the development of future financial professionals and continuously enhance my own knowledge and skills,” Davis says. “Through these roles, I am able to give back to the community, support important causes and ensure that I am always at the forefront of industry developments.”
