SRC hiring to follow record growth

Springfield ReManufacturing Corp. is trending up, both in revenue growth and need for employees. 

To address the latter, SRC will host an on-site career fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on June 9 at 650 N. Broadview Place.

Scot Scobee, director of human resources with SRC, said the company is seeking to add approximately 30 positions – the majority of which will be for second shift. SRC remanufactures engines and components for the automobile, commercial trucking, construction and agriculture industries. 

Record growth in 2017, along with stronger-than-expected sales in 2018, is the impetus for the career fair, Scobee said. 

Revenue for the company was $90 million in 2017, which he said was 67 percent above the $53 million projected for the year. A major contributor was a five-year contract SRC received from an undisclosed large over-the-road diesel manufacturing company. Scobee said the company had been working on earning the approximately $30 million annual contract for a number of years.

Scobee said this year’s growth “is all organic,” crediting many of their current customers placing orders above and beyond what was forecasted.

“We had been forecasting 2018 would be a barnburner, and it’s been all that and more,” he said, projecting $105 million in revenue for this year. “We’re still looking at a pace of about 30 percent or so – this is all with current customers in 2018.” 

The coming career fair will be the second such event the company has held in the past 15 months, as a similar job-hiring event in March 2017 resulted in 30 positions filled, Scobee said. A total of 80 employees were added over the course of last year. 

Once all new hiring is complete, Scobee said full-time positions with benefits for SRC would be about 375.

“We're hoping to get a good shot in the arm with the career fair,” he said.

Interested applicants should bring their resume to the June 9 event. According to a Missouri Job Center news release, representatives from the agency will be on site that day to assist individuals with submitting applications

People Link and Penmac staffing agencies will also be on hand to prescreen applicants. Scobee said although SRC is utilizing services of the staffing agencies, he stressed that the 30 positions are not temporary and will be full-time jobs with benefits. In-person interviews will take place at the event and offers of employment may be extended, the release said. Prior to the event, applicants can submit applications and resumes on SRC’s career opportunity page.
