Silver Dollar City to invest $1.5M enhancing An Old Time Christmas

Silver Dollar City is investing $1.5 million into new features for its fan-favorite An Old Time Christmas.

Park officials hired Atlanta-based S4 Lights to design a new 80-foot-tall tree for the holiday event, featuring myriad “dancing” high-resolution lights that can create animated imagery along with color, music and light combinations. It will be the centerpiece of what Silver Dollar City officials are calling Joy on Town Square, at the front of the Branson theme park, according to a news release.

“We engaged a team of the world’s most-celebrated lighting geniuses to create this just for Silver Dollar City guests,” President Brad Thomas said in the release. “Joy on Town Square will include illumination of the square’s buildings, trees and landscape, immersing our guests in an even greater Christmas adventure.”

This year, An Old Time Christmas runs Nov. 2 through Dec. 30.

The investment announcement follows Silver Dollar City being named the best U.S. holiday theme park by USA Today readers last month. A record 518,000 visitors came to Silver Dollar City for An Old Time Christmas, contributing to an all-time attendance high of 2.18 million guests for the park last year.

Crews also are working on a new attraction at the site of Lost River of the Ozarks, which was recently demolished after 34 years in operation. It’s unclear what park officials are planning in Lost River’s stead, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
