Ozarks Technical Community College has selected a longtime employee to fill the role of provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Steven Bishop, OTC's dean of allied health and interim dean of general education, will take the position July 1, pending approval by the OTC Board of Trustees during its May meeting, according to a news release.

Bishop would succeed Shirley Lawler, who is retiring after 15 years with the college. She was promoted to lead academic affairs in summer 2010. Lawler will continue to work as a part-time instructor for OTC for its associate of arts in teaching program and will continue to play a role in the OTC Chancellors Leadership Academy program and the Lindenwood University doctoral program offered at OTC's Springfield campus, the release said.

Bishop, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia, has 31 years of education experience and has worked at OTC since it was founded in 1991. He began teaching as program director of the School of Respiratory Care through CoxHealth.

“In his years at OTC, Dr. Bishop has demonstrated a dedication to academic excellence, a commitment to students and a focus on providing the training and education needed to help those students find success in their careers,” OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon said in the release.
