Farm 2 Counter Inc.
Paul and Ashely Allen opened Farm 2 Counter Inc. convenience store Dec. 8 at 2006 N. Broadway Ave., which also serves as the operation center for their 2-year-old grocery delivery service by the same name. Paul said they spent about $100,000 remodeling the former Broadway Corner Store with new paint, flooring and ceilings, as well as technology that allows the LED lighting, music, security system and thermostat to be controlled with a mobile device. Ashely – who married Paul in September and is expecting the birth of a new baby in June – is leaving a nursing career to manage the front of the store, Paul said. The shop sells local and organic foods and soft drinks, in addition to craft beers and a selection of liquors. Michael Wilson continues to manage the grocery deliver service from the new building, sending foods from local farmers markets to customers in 13 towns between Springfield and Branson.

Wood & Twig
Kimberling City-based Christian Associates of Table Rock Lake on Dec. 1 opened a third resale store, dubbed Wood & Twig. At Battlefield Mall, 2825 S. Glenstone Ave., the nonprofit signed a one-year lease for the 12,500-square-foot former Ethan Allen furniture space on the east side, said Anna Hogue, a regional manager for Christian Associates. The organization collects and sells donated items to raise money for Harbor House domestic violence shelter and an emergency food pantry in Kimberling City, Hogue said, as well as help fund a library and senior center in Kimberling City and the Nixa Education Foundation. Wood & Twig resells higher-end home furnishings and appliances, which Hogue said is a departure from its mostly apparel thrift stores in Branson West and Nixa. Hogue declined to disclose lease terms at the mall.

HomeGoods
The TJX Cos. Inc., opened its first Springfield HomeGoods decor store Nov. 12 in Glenstone Marketplace at 3333 S. Glenstone Ave., where a Howard Johnson hotel was torn down in 2015. The new 22,420-square-foot store sells furniture, rugs, lighting, kitchen and bath accessories, dining room fixtures, bedding, children’s toys, outdoor living items and pet accessories at prices below the suggested retail rate, according to a news release from Public Relations Specialist Julie LaFreniere. About 65 full- and part-time employees work at the local HomeGoods. The chain operates 570 stores nationwide, the release said, and is owned by the same Massachusetts-based company as T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Sierra Trading Post and Homesense – totaling 3,800 stores in eight countries. Brad Thessing developed the estimated $10 million, 100,000-square-foot Glenstone Marketplace and also has signed Colorado-based natural-foods grocer Lucky’s Market and ohio-based Designer Shoe Warehouse for the remaining units.
