Commercial St. Joseph Gidman said startup costs for the store were around $60,000, and the company has a three-year lease with a three-year renewal option on 2,200 square feet with Collette Parker Restoration for undisclosed terms. Gidman sells loose-leaf teas by the ounce, $1.80-$7, and by the cup, $1.85. With six employees and seating for 10, Chabom also sells boxed tea as well as organic and bulk spices. Mosquito Joe of Southwest Missouri
Recently retired U.S. Navy veteran Sam Dowell started a Mosquito Joe pest control franchise June 1 out of his Springfield home. Initial franchise startup costs total $78,000, according to the Virginia Beach, Va.-based company’s website. For Mosquito Joe of Southwest Missouri, Dowell said he received an undisclosed discount through the franchise’s VetFran program. Dowell, who was in the Navy 30 years, said the company treats residential and commercial properties with pet-safe synthetic and organic spray for mosquitos, ticks, fleas and mites seasonally through September. Dowell said typical residential rates start at $69 and commercial rates start at $49. The company has four employees and serves the Springfield, Branson, Monett, Joplin and Carthage areas. Sequiota Bike Shop LLC
Anne Kim and Tom Muetzel, owners of Finnegan’s Wake downtown, opened Sequiota Bike Shop LLC on May 18 in Galloway Village. Kim said they signed a six-year lease at 3521 S. Lone Pine Ave. with Darlene Bannigan for undisclosed terms. Manager Kaitlyn Smith said the 850-square-foot restaurant and bar serves soup, salads and sandwiches in the $8-$10 range and cheese boards between $15 and $17. Single bikes are rented hourly for $15 and tandem bikes for $25; the rates drop by half for each additional hour. Kim said Sequiota Bike Shop employs 13 and has outdoor seating capacity for 48.
