Dacia LLC
A taste of Transylvania is in the Queen City with the Aug. 21 opening of Dacia LLC. The husband-and-wife team of Romulus and Hannelore Manole originally set up a Romanian food truck, their first restaurant venture, at the SGF Mobile Food Park just north of Glenstone Avenue and Chestnut Expressway. They moved the truck in early November to 1666 E. St. Louis St., filling the spot vacated this summer by The Wheelhouse LLC, which is now inside the Vib Springfield hotel. The lot is leased for undisclosed terms from Brick & Mortar LLC owner Jonathan Putnam. “We both love cooking and we love to be in the kitchen together,” Hannelore said, noting the food is inspired by Romulus, who is Romanian. One of Dacia’s signature dishes is mici, pronounced “meech,” which is made of pork, beef, mutton and seasonings. Other food items, all priced under $10, include traditional chimney cakes, potato salad, eggplant salad and meatball soup. Hannelore said the name Dacia honors the heritage of Romania prior to it being conquered in A.D. 106.
