Ten Springfield-area nonprofits raised an aggregate $174,388 to receive their piece of an endowment-challenge pie from Community Foundation of the Ozarks.

For the challenge, the nonprofits were required to raise at least $10,000 apiece in February to receive a $5,000 match each from CFO for permanent endowments, according to a news release.

The Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation raised the most, at $74,050, bringing its endowment total to $79,050.

The agencies, by fundraising amounts in February, are:
    •    Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation, $74,050;
    •    Friends of the Garden, $15,000;
    •    United Cancer Assistance Network (Poplar Bluff), $14,474;
    •    Watching Over Whiskers, $10,840;
    •    Southwest R-5 School Foundation, $10,024;
    •    Bonebrake Museum of Nature and History, $10,000;
    •    Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Missouri (Joplin), $10,000;
    •    Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, $10,000;
    •    Community Counseling Center Foundation (Cape Girardeau), $10,000; and
    •    Springfield Little Theatre, $10,000.

“The leverage of matching gifts and the long-term benefits of endowed funds are two of the best tools for creating sustainable, stable nonprofits,” CFO President Brian Fogle said in the release. “We’re so proud of these 10 agencies and their donors for understanding the power of both.”
