Nixa hires search firm for next city administrator

Posted online

The city of Nixa hired a national recruitment firm to attract applicants for its open administrator position after the retirement of 17-year leader Brian Bingle.

Keller, Texas-based Strategic Government Resources Inc. was brought on to develop an ideal candidate profile, build the job description with a community overview, market the position nationally and conduct an initial review of the applications, according to a news release. Nixa spokesman Drew Douglas said the city’s contract with Strategic Government Resources will not exceed $28,000.

“The selected city administrator will be a creative, progressive and visionary municipal professional with a positive approach to leadership,” the job posting online reads. “The council desires a candidate who will communicate with them sincerely and candidly.”

The initial application period will close Feb. 16, after which Strategic Government Resources will recommend candidates to the city’s search committee. Comprising Mayor Brian Steele and three council members, the committee will select semifinalists for initial interviews and four to six finalists to be interviewed by the full council, according to the release.

“Ideally, we will have a new city administrator in place by June; however, there is a possibility that no final candidate is seated and we would have to advertise the position again,” Douglas said via email. “We are willing to wait to find the ideal candidate.”

The city in September named Nixa Public Works Director Doug Colvin interim administrator after Bingle retired.

According to the job posting, the salary range for the Nixa city administrator position is $110,000 to $140,000. Reporting to the mayor and six council members, the city’s hired administrator would lead the day-to-day operations of the city and its $38 million budget.

On its website, Strategic Government Resources also lists city administrator and director positions open in the Missouri cities of Lebanon, Riverside, Smithville, Cape Girardeau and St. Charles.
