McCaskill to speak alongside Bentley, Kleinsmith at MSU

Missouri State University is scheduled to honor former Greene County Commissioner Roseann Bentley and Nixa Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Kleinsmith at its May 18 spring commencement ceremonies. Sen. Claire McCaskill also will be a speaker.

During the first ceremony at JQH Arena, McCaskill, D-Missouri, is slated to be the keynote speaker for students graduating from the College of Business, the William H. Darr College of Agriculture and interdisciplinary academic programs, according to a news release.

Kleinsmith will be the keynote speaker for the second ceremony covering students from the College of Humanities and Public Affairs and the College of Health and Human Services. During the ceremony, the outgoing Nixa superintendent is scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate.

In August, Kleinsmith plans to start as director of school and community partnerships at MSU, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

Bentley will deliver the final keynote speech in the third ceremony. She also will be awarded an honorary doctorate during the commencement for students of the College of Arts and Letters, College of Education and College of Natural and Applied Sciences, according to the release.

During the commencement ceremonies, MSU is expected to confer 2,005 bachelor’s degrees, 531 master’s degrees, 91 doctorate degrees and four specialist degrees. Of those students, 140 will graduate summa cum laude with grade point averages of at least 3.9.
