Metropolitan Farmer and its upstairs Barley, Wheat and Rye Social House plan to shut down later this month, according to a Facebook post.
The reason for the planned closure was not stated in the post. Executive chef and owner Wes Johnson could not be reached for comment by deadline, and a call to the restaurant went unanswered. An attempt to reach Pat Duran, who in 2013 launched the restaurant as a sister company to Metropolitan Grill, was unsuccessful.
“As of Jan. 27, Metropolitan Farmer and Barley, Wheat and Rye will close our doors at the Farmers Park,” the post, signed by “Wes, Tara and our Farmer family,” reads. “It has been a wild ride and we thank each and every member of our team, our family and our patrons for supporting our dream.”
Metropolitan Farmer and Barley, Wheat and Rye opened as the first tenant of south-side development Farmers Park in November 2013, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
