Morelock-Ross Builders Inc. co-founder Kenny Ross has joined his sons’ new venture, Ross Construction Group LLC.
David Ross, who co-owns Ross Construction Group with his brother Andy, this morning confirmed his father is now the third executive at the firm.
“After over 35 years of being a business owner, his main focus is going to be on business development for RCG,” David Ross said.
Springfield Business Journal last month reported David and Andy Ross split from Morelock-Ross to launch Ross Construction Group in October 2017. At the time, Andy Ross declined to comment on whether his father would follow, and Kenny Ross could not be reached for comment.
“A lot of the deals that Kenny has worked on over the last 35-plus years have been very complicated to put together; this was no different,” David Ross said when asked about the delay between Kenny Ross leaving Morelock-Ross and joining Ross Construction Group.
David Ross added Kenny Ross and his former business partner Wayne Morelock had been working out the ownership details of Morelock-Ross after Ross exited the firm. He declined to say whether Ross sold his stake in the company to Morelock.
“They had a good run and they had just been working to get everything finished up,” David Ross said, noting there was no noncompete clause signed. “This was part of it.”
Kenny Ross was no longer employed with Morelock-Ross when SBJ first reported about Ross Construction Group on Jan. 25. In 1982, with Morelock, he co-founded Morelock-Ross, currently ranked by SBJ as the fourth-largest local commercial contractor based on self-reported client billings of nearly $37 million in 2016. According to Morelock-Ross.com, the general contractor has completed more than 350 commercial and residential projects in the last 35 years.
Among Ross Construction Group’s slate of projects is a $4.8 million warehouse for Ozarks Food Harvest and a nearly $4 million, two-story addition for Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Nixa.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
