Eagle Speak, a company designing solutions to improve productivity by allowing users to communicate at their computers without disrupting their programs or workflow, won Springfield’s second-annual Startup Weekend contest.

The team comprising Brandon Cash, Jason Arend and Myke Bates this weekend presented a live demo at Missouri State University’s eFactory during a pitch to judges Bill Anderson, acting executive director of the Missouri Technology Corp., Julie Higgins, founder and CEO of iPourLife and Ron Yust, founder and owner of Mobiltect, according to news release.

During Startup Weekend, some 30 attendees formed five teams to work on business ideas pitched to the judges. Teams spent 54 hours creating businesses based on the top ideas. The event was organized by Jeremy Adams, Chris Allen, Chad Carleton and Cody Stringer.

Second place went to Leasy, which created a rental service for people to share their spare equipment and electronics, and the third place winner was Every Step, which created an app allowing daycare providers to share pictures and information with parents, according to the release.

The finalists earned the right to compete in the Global Startup Battle, a contest among over 250 cities with prizes that range from startup help to entrepreneurship trips. St. Louis, Columbia and Kansas City also are on the list.

Allen said Eagle Speak also won:
    •    a three-month membership at Originate, a co-working space in The eFactory;
    •    memberships to the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s young professionals group The Network and Springfield Creatives, a networking group for creative professionals; and
    •    legal, financial and project management consultation services.

Last year, SoHoHQ, a social website for the self-employed, took home top honors in the Springfield contest. The company’s website states the business is “coming soon.”
