Magers Crossing LLC picked up another nearly 4 acres recently rezoned for general retail space along Republic Road on the city’s south side.
The wooded lot is adjacent to the Magers Crossing development underway at the corner of Cox Avenue and Republic; it’s also across the road from Price Cutter.
Springfield City Council on Jan. 29 approved the rezoning of the wooded property to general retail from single-family residential. Honolulu resident Phil Leas of Leas Legacy Lands LLC said he sold the land the following day to Magers Crossing. Greene County recorder’s office records also show Leas Legacy issued a warranty deed to Magers Crossing on Jan. 30.
Leas declined to disclose terms of the sale, and Magers Crossing owner Randy Magers could not be reached to comment on his plans for the acreage.
At neighboring 2150 W. Republic Road, crews this past summer broke ground on a planned $3.5 million, multiphase Magers Crossing that overall encompasses space for 10 retail storefronts, 10 offices and seven restaurants, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
Including a two-story, 31,000-square-foot building at 4126 S. Cox Ave., the development comprises some 50,000 square feet of multiuse tenant space to date. The bulk of work appears to be complete, though signage indicates tenants are still being sought.
Great American Taco was the first restaurant to lease space. Other tenants on board include Hudson Hawk Barber & Shop, Roost Bar & Grill and S.W.E.T. Hot Yoga and Fitness.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
