Civil Kitchen reopened in time for New Year’s Eve after an electrical fire resulted in water damage less than two weeks ago.
A Dec. 28 Facebook post by Civil pointed to “our wonderful staff for going above and beyond for making it possible to open tomorrow.” The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. today.
An early morning electrical fire Dec. 21 caused the sprinkler system in the 107 Park Central Square building to go off, forcing the restaurant’s closure. Springfield Fire Department Chief David Pennington previously told Springfield Business Journal damages from the fire on the roof were minimal, but water damages occurred when the flames breached the third floor.
Civil co-owner Anne Baker could not be reached for comment by deadline this morning.
Civil Kitchen opened in October 2015 at the former home of Trolley’s Park Central Pub.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
