The Missouri Department of Revenue’s monthly check issued to the city of Springfield came in below expectations.
The $4.1 million check fell 4 percent short of city officials’ projections of $4.3 million for the month, according to a news release.
However, for the fiscal year that started July 1, sales tax revenues now total $23 million, or 1 percent above officials’ year-to-date projections.
The December check reflects sales processed by the state in November from transactions primarily conducted in October, according to the release.
Springfield uses sales tax revenue from the Department of Revenue to fund the Police and Fire departments and other public services. Roughly 56 percent of the city’s general fund comes from sales and use taxes.
