Cantina Laredo opens for business

Posted online
The first Springfield Cantina Laredo opened for business today.

Steve Heil, via CL Springfield LLC, launched the south-side franchise location of the Dallas-based Mexican food chain at 4109 S. National Ave. The site had been home to his Springfield Pasta Co. concept, but he closed the restaurant in January.

Heil hired former Tower Club General Manager Jeff Anderson to lead the roughly 150-employee restaurant, which is modeled after the closest Cantina Laredo franchise at Branson Landing.

“Bringing Cantina Laredo to Springfield has been my aim for some time now. I believe that Springfield residents will appreciate the modern take on Mexican food and drinks,” Heil said in a news release.

In the January Springfield Business Journal story, "Springfield restaurateur to open Cantina Laredo franchise," Heil said the Cantina Laredo franchise fee is $50,000 per restaurant, plus a 5 percent royalty fee. At the time, he noted he has the franchise rights for all of Springfield, but has no current plans to open a second location.

The remodeling of the 8,700-square-foot restaurant at South National Avenue and James River Freeway cost roughly $2.5 million, according to SBJ archives.[[In-content Ad]]
