Business owners Fishel, Fisk win City Council bids

Posted online
Businesspeople Craig Fishel and Jan Fisk have been elected to Springfield City Council. They were among general election winners yesterday, when about 12 percent of the county's registered voters turned up to the polls.

Fishel won his bid for the Zone 4 council seat held by Scott Bailes, who didn't run in the election. Fishel, who founded Fishel Pools in 1976, beat out competitors Stephen Makoski, director of human resources for Rapid Robert's Inc., and Rodney Geurin, a delivery driver for Blue Bell Creameries, according to the county election results. Fishel received 2,887 votes, or 61 percent.

Fisk, co-owner of J. Howard Fisk Limousines, defeated Arthur Hodge Sr., a Springfield substitute teacher who is retired from the U.S. Army and Springfield Public Schools. Fisk was chosen to fill General Seat A last June after Jim O'Neal resigned as mayor and Bob Stephens moved from his council seat to fill the position. Yesterday, Fisk received 8,007 votes, or about 70 percent.

Mayor Bob Stephens and Councilmen Jeff Seifried and Craig Hosmer were elected after running unopposed for their positions.

Mayor Pro Tem Seifried, regional development manager for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, was selected to fill the Zone 1 seat early last year after the resignation of Nick Ibarra. Hosmer, a partner with Hosmer King & Royce LLC and a former member of the Missouri House of Representatives, was elected to General Seat B. Hosmer had been slated to run against Mike Carroll, controller at Andy’s Frozen Custard, until Carroll was selected in February to fill General Seat D after the resignation of Thomas Bieker.[[In-content Ad]]
