Best of Luck Beer Hall to open tomorrow

Posted online

Good Spirits Concepts LLC’s new athletic club-themed venture is slated to open for business tomorrow.

Jim Wilson, co-owner of Good Spirits, said Best of Luck Beer Hall is scheduled to officially launch at 4 p.m. Friday. Springfield Business Journal staff members were invited to a sneak peek yesterday evening, where they observed some 30 beers on tap, a specialty cocktail and food menu, arcade games and an indoor synthetic grass court for yard games bocce ball, cornhole and washer pitching. Board and card games also are available.

Declining to disclose Good Spirits’ investment in the project, Wilson said H.C. Rogers Construction Group LLC “did a great job” with the infill work.

“We’re really happy with how it turned out. It looks just like our vision,” said Wilson, who owns Good Spirits with Josh Widner.

Located at 313 S. Jefferson Ave., Best of Luck Beer Hall fills the back portion of a 9,300-square-foot property that Wilson’s JJJ Development LLC purchased in June 2018. The front side is leased to Zayka Indian Cuisine, which opened in 2016. The concepts occupy the space previously filled by Mille's Cafe and Coyote’s Adobe Cafe & Bar, which closed in 2015, according to SBJ archives. Wilson said Best of Luck Beer Hall is housed in some 3,500 square feet.

Wilson said Good Spirits hired ForeverLawn to build the synthetic grass patch in the center of the bar.

“People have been all over that,” he said.

Best of Luck Beer Hall also has a full menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, bratwurst, a butternut kale melt, oysters, charcuterie, roasted bone marrow, soft pretzels, cheese frites, beer nuts and deviled eggs. A lunch menu also will be available.

“We’ve tried to be really reasonable with all our prices across the board,” Wilson said, pointing to $3 specials for beers such as Coors Banquet and Shiner Bock and a happy hour menu.

The bar also features artwork from Frank Norton Jr., the art director for Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Co. Wilson said Norton also produced art for Golden Girl Rum Club, another of Widner’s ventures.

Wilson added Good Spirits plans to make an announcement about another concept in around a month. He said the company is continuing to work on finding a location for its food hall — previously under the Blackwell Hall name — after plans at the former Bistro Market downtown fell through.
