$4.3M MoDOT project pushed back a week

Roadway improvements at U.S. Highway 65 and Interstate 44 will start a week later than expected.

The Missouri Department of Transportation yesterday announced the $4.3 million project will start July 13, instead of July 6, so the contractor, St. Charles-based Millstone Weber Inc., can finish a separate road project, according to a news release.

Millstone Weber was contracted to conduct Phase II of MoDOT’s The Rebuild campaign, a $20.3 million three-phase initiative designed to make improvements along a roughly 11-mile stretch of Highway 65.

Phase II calls for removing and rebuilding the southbound Highway 65 bridge over I-44, as well as repaving portions where damages are readily visible, rebuilding ramps and shoulders, and upgrading guardrails.

Officials plan several road closures and detours during the last half of July through late August, when the project is scheduled to be completed.

Closures include:
    •    southbound Highway 65, July 13 through late August;
    •    I-44 at Highway 65, July 13-14; and
    •    some I-44 lanes overnight throughout the project timeline.
