The Kitchen sells C-Street campus

Posted online
The Kitchen Inc.’s seven-building, 106,000-square-foot campus on Commercial Street has sold after two years on the market.

Rorie Orgeron, the nonprofit’s CEO, signed the deal yesterday with buyer Historic Commercial Developments LLC for undisclosed terms. The 3.5-acre campus, including the 40,000-square-foot former Missouri Hotel, had been listed by Murney, Associates Realtors real estate agent Bart Collins for $1.3 million. The Missouri Hotel homeless shelter closed in in early 2015.

The move allows the nonprofit to pay off debt before embarking on a new multimillion-dollar campus development. The Kitchen will not immediately vacate its space on C-Street.

“The Kitchen Inc. did not make a profit from the sale of the property,” Orgeron said in a news release. “It allows us to pay what is owed on the campus as well as past debt accrued.

“Moving forward, we will be able to allocate our resources to helping the homeless instead of making payments on old debt.”

Historic Commercial Developments LLC is organized by Matthew Max Miller, according to a Missouri secretary of state filing in October. The individual is not the Matt E. Miller of Miller Commerce LLC or the Matthew Miller of The Vecino Group, according to officials with the two companies. An email to Matthew Max Miller was not returned by deadline. The Kitchen Community Development Manager Roz Palmer declined to provide the buyer’s contact information.

The Kitchen will lease four buildings to house its operations until its new $4 million campus planned for Glenstone Avenue and Chestnut Expressway is completed, according to the news release.

Nonprofit officials say they've raised 77 percent of the project funds and expect to break ground by fall.
