State unemployment rates hold mostly steady

Missouri and 38 other states posted unchanged unemployment rates in April compared with March, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Unemployment rates dipped in 10 states, with only one posting an increase, according to a news release issued this morning.

The Show-Me State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9 percent in April and March after dropping from 4.1 percent in February. The latest data show Missouri’s jobless rate dropped from 4.5 percent in April 2016.

During April, nonfarm payroll employment rose in nine states, dropped in one and was unchanged in 40, according to the release.

Missouri was flat at 3.1 million.
