Springfield hotel room sales rise 10%

Springfield lodging industry operators posted $9.4 million in August room sales, a 10.3 percent uptick compared with $9 million a year earlier, according to the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau’s latest tourism report.

Through August, year-to-date room sales were $72.8 million, up 6.3 percent from $68.4 million at the same time last year.

The city’s occupancy rate - total available rooms divided by rooms sold - grew to 66.1 percent in August from 62.9 percent a year earlier. Year to date, occupancy improved to 63.7 percent from 61.5 percent, according to the CVB.

Other August lodging industry statistics:
    •    Room demand rose to 115,722 from 113,633.
    •    Room supply dropped to 174,995 from 180,544.
    •    Average daily rate rose to $81.43 from $78.72.
    •    Revenue per available room moved up to $53.85 from $49.55.
