SCA director retires

Posted online
Springfield Contractors Association Executive Director Sheryl Letterman retired earlier this month, citing a desire to spend more time with family.

Letterman held the position since 1986, and her last day on the job was Jan. 19. The SCA’s employment service director, Kathy Baer, succeeds her as interim director.

“I’m sad to see her go, but I’m glad for her that she’ll get to spend more time with her family,” said Baer, who has worked at the SCA for 20 years.

Michael Textor, SCA general counsel, said the board hasn’t yet set a process to find Letterman’s successor but is currently evaluating the situation.

“Sheryl was such a wonderful and dominant part of the SCA and its growth since ’86,” said Textor, an attorney with Lathrop & Gage LLP who has worked 18 years in construction law and commercial litigation. “We’re not even sure how many people it’s going to take to fill her shoes.”

Textor declined to say when Letterman informed the board of her decision to retire.

“We knew that this was something that she wanted to do for a long time,” he said. “We’re not going to get into all the details of that.”

Letterman did not respond by deadline to a request about timing.

During her tenure, Letterman was instrumental in leading the construction of the SCA headquarters at 1313 N. Nias Ave. When she started, the trade organization had no formal office, according to a news release.

“I’ve enjoyed the most amazing career and I'm so glad to have had the chance to know so many great people. I'm proud that I could help Springfield Contractors Association grow from fewer than 100 members to over 400 at our peak,” Letterman said in an emailed statement. “Springfield Contractors Association has been my world for the last 28 years.

“Now, I'm looking forward to starting the next chapter in my life and exploring new opportunities.”

Formed in 1953, the organization works to promote quality in the construction industry.[[In-content Ad]]
