Missouri gas price dip outpaces US decrease

Posted online
Missouri’s gas price average fell by 4.5 cents during the past week, while the national figure decreased by 2.6 cents.

Missouri’s average yesterday was $1.99 per gallon, 26 cents below the U.S. total of $2.25 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

With the decrease, Missouri’s average yesterday was 13.4 cents lower than a month ago and 11.8 cents less than a year ago. The national average dropped 11.5 cents during the past month and 5.7 cents during the past year.

“The downward momentum has continued and may do so again this week, so long as there's no sudden reversal in the price of crude oil,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, in the release. “It's amazing we're staring at some of the cheapest prices of the year as the holiday comes into view.”

Missouri’s average was up to $2.02 per gallon this morning, ranking the state seventh on GasBuddy’s list of the lowest averages nationwide. With a $1.91 per gallon average, South Carolina topped the list, and Hawaii was last with a $3.02 per gallon average.

This morning in the Show-Me State, the lowest cost of gas was $1.72 per gallon at two stations in Herculaneum. The highest price was $2.89 per gallon at a station in Ladue, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

Springfield’s lowest cost of gas this morning was $1.87 per gallon at the 2415 S. Campbell Ave. Signal station. Prices elsewhere ranged from $1.88 to $1.99 per gallon.
