Dixon exiting chamber to lead community college group

The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce is down another senior staffer.

The Missouri Community College Association selected chamber Executive Vice President Rob Dixon to fill its top spot as executive director and CEO. The MCCA Presidents/Chancellors Council approved the appointment during its Dec. 10 monthly meeting, according to a news release.

Dixon is the third chamber senior staffer to exit this year, following President and CEO Jim Anderson, who retired June 30 and took a position with CoxHealth, and Executive Vice President Brad Bodenhausen, who started full time with Missouri State University on July 1.

“I think it is an opportunity for [President and CEO] Matt [Morrow] to really take a look at the staff and chamber structure and decide what is best for our members going forward,” Dixon said this morning, adding the three departures this year were a coincidence. “We have an outstanding staff and I can’t speak for Matt, but I think that structure will continue to evolve.”

At the MCCA, Dixon replaces Zora Mulligan, who served as executive director for four years and is now chief of staff for the University of Missouri system, according to the release. Dixon’s last day at the chamber is Jan. 15, and he will assume his new role Jan. 19.

“Through my professional and personal life I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with some great community colleges and they are something I really have a passion for,” said Dixon, a St. Charles Community College graduate. “I wasn’t intending to leave the chamber any time soon, but this was an opportunity that was too good to pass up.”

At the chamber since 2009, Dixon was promoted to executive vice president in July 2013, taking on many of Bodenhausen’s responsibilities. He was formerly the chamber’s vice president of business assistance and previously spent two years as executive director of the Hollister Area Chamber of Commerce. A former U.S. Marine, Dixon also has a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and master’s in in public administration from MSU. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at Ozarks Technical Community College.

“Rob has actively supported community colleges throughout his career,” said Cliff Davis, chair of MCCA’s Presidents/Chancellors Council and president of the OTC Table Rock campus, in the release. “His experience in governmental affairs, economic development, strategic planning and workforce development will be invaluable as he leads MCCA and promotes the growth and development of Missouri’s community colleges.”

The MCCA is a professional education association designed to promote the growth and development of Missouri’s community colleges and community college employees. It serves 5,700 faculty, staff, administrators and trustees statewide, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
