City sewer rates to rise July 1

The city of Springfield is implementing a planned sewer service rate hike on July 1.

With the change, average customers using 600 cubic feet — or 4,488 gallons — of water per month will see their bills rise to $30.64 from $28.94, a roughly 5.9 percent jump. The city contracts with City Utilities for sanitary sewer services billing, meaning the change will be reflected on customers’ August CU bills, according to a news release.

This month’s increase is the first in a series through 2020 approved by City Council in November.

The most recent hike of 3 percent a year ago was the last in a series approved by council in spring 2011.
