CFO awards $120K in grants

Community Foundation of the Ozarks picked five nonprofits to receive $120,000 in grants.

The Betty and Bobby Allison Ozarks Counseling Center and Care to Learn received the largest grants at $30,000 apiece, according to a news release.

The grant recipients are:
    •    Betty and Bobby Allison Ozarks Counseling Center, $30,000 for a partnership with Mercy affiliate clinic Missouri State University Care and National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwest Missouri to place a psychotherapist and a NAMI peer support specialist at the clinic inside MSU’s O’Reilly Clinical Health Sciences Center;
    •    Care to Learn, $30,000 to develop a partnership with Council of Churches of the Ozarks’ Crosslines and Ambassadors for Children programs, Springfield Public Schools and the Springfield Public Schools Council of PTAs to create a mobile children’s closet with clothing, shoes and hygiene items;
    •    Ozark Greenways Inc., $29,000 to work with Sculpture Walk Springfield, the Springfield Regional Arts Council and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to install permanent outdoor sculptures at Jordan Valley Park;
    •    Doling Neighborhood Association, $22,500 to establish a block party tool kit with the Springfield Police Department and Community Partnership of the Ozarks; and
    •    Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri, $8,500 to support homeless teens with the help of Rare Breed and The Victim Center.

The funding is available through CFO’s second Collective Impact grant cycle, which is designed to encourage collaborative projects affecting community goals and issues. Led by CFO board member Jean Twitty, the grant committee also comprised Josh Hartman, Thomas Lane, Jared Lightle, Travis Liles, Megan Morris and Todd Parnell, according to the release.
