Ruby’s Market
Pyramid Foods added the Ruby’s Market brand to its portfolio with the March 15 natural foods store opening at 2843 E. Sunshine St. The Springfield-based grocery chain, known for its 25 Price Cutter stores across southwest Missouri, renovated a former Dillons grocery store acquired in a multistore deal a couple of years ago. Ruby’s Market Director Jeff Moore said the 54,000-square-foot store has nearly 90 employees but will employ well over 100 at capacity. Moore said grocery ideas drawn from coast to coast resulted in such unique features as a chop shop for custom-cut produce, a nutrition and supplement department, a cooler of meal kits to go, a 10,000-square-foot liquor store and in-store bar with beer, wine and kombucha on tap. The concept also emphasizes food education and local products, with more than 50 items made in Missouri. The Ruby’s name is in honor of Pyramid Foods’ President and CEO Erick Taylor’s grandmother, and Fonnie’s Tap House bar and patio pays homage to her husband, Moore said. Store officials declined to disclose the renovation cost.

Kum & Go LC
Kum & Go LC opened its second Marketplace concept store in Springfield on March 2. The 6,200-square-foot store at 1211 W. Sunshine St. has the newly designed features, such as indoor and outdoor seating, an open kitchen layout, device charging stations and complimentary Wi-Fi. It replaces a gas station and convenience store at 1306 W. Sunshine St. The first Kum & Go Marketplace in Springfield opened last summer at Sunset Street and Campbell Avenue, and the chain operates two in Republic and one in Ozark. West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has 46 stores in the Springfield area and more than 70 in the state of Missouri. Officials have said the budgeted investment for local store upgrades exceeds $30 million. The Marketplace stores typically exceed $4 million in development costs, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Paragon 360 LLC
Paragon 360 LLC and Sounds Great merged their brands March 15, four years after Sounds Great became a division of Paragon 360. The audio, video, lighting and staging companies have jointly partnered on projects for a few years, and now will operate singly as Paragon 360. “We’ve basically had two names for the same company of people,” President and CEO Donnie Brawner said in a news release. “We believe this will help eliminate potential confusion between the names.” The company employs 30 from its 1859 W. Arbor St. office. Paragon 360 represents 250 brands of professional AVL gear and manufactures its own line of drum enclosures, scenic elements and modular staging. Spokesman Kelly O’Bryant said projects range from $50,000 locally to $3 million on national jobs. With a niche in church venues, current projects include Seminole Baptist, Ridgecrest Baptist and First Baptist in Springfield. Corporate work has been for Bass Pro Shops, JQH Arena, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Six Flags Theme Parks.
