Springfield Plaza signs shoe retailer

Posted online
Kannapolis, North Carolina-based Shoe Show Inc. is bringing one of its store concepts to the west side of Springfield.

Springfield Plaza co-developer Tom Rankin said Shoe Dept. Encore is expected to open this summer adjacent to Ross Dress for Less and Petco. Rounding out Phase I of the $78.5 million, 90-acre planned development near West Bypass and Sunshine Street is Springfield’s first Burlington Coat Factory. The Springfield News-Leader first reported Shoe Dept. Encore’s market entry into the Queen City.

“I’ll be turning the space over to them at the end of August,” Rankin said, noting Shoe Dept. Encore and the three other stores likely would open around the same time.

Shoe Show Inc. signed a lease within the last couple of months for 12,000 square feet, he said, noting the company’s stores typically range from 6,000 to 12,000 square feet. Terms were undisclosed.

According to ShoeShow.com, the company sells men’s, women’s and children’s shoes, as well as handbags and backpacks, at roughly 1,100 stores — including one each in Joplin and Neosho — in 45 states. The company operates stores under the names Shoe Dept. Encore, Shoe Show, Shoe Dept. and Show Show Mega Store.

On the south side, another national shoe retailer is on board at developer Brad Thessing’s Glenstone Marketplace.

Columbus, Ohio, retail chain Designer Shoe Warehouse is slated to open its first Springfield store at 3333 S. Glenstone Ave. next spring. Construction is ongoing at the $10 million development.
