SPS hires secondary learning program leader

Springfield Public Schools yesterday announced the hiring of Shane Dublin as the new executive director of secondary learning.

Dublin, whose appointment is effective July 1, will be paid an annual salary of $114,869, according to a school news release.

In his new role, Dublin will work with SPS middle and high school principals to execute the district’s education strategies. He worked the last 10 years as a Bolivar R-1 School District middle school principal and prior to that as principal of Halfway R-3 School District.

SPS spokeswoman Pam Bodine said Dublin replaces Julie Steiger, who served as interim executive director for the 2015-16 academic year when the role was newly created from the former director of secondary education position.

“We are excited for Shane to join our learning team,” SPS Chief Learning Officer Mike Dawson said in the release. “His leadership philosophy and vision for secondary learning will complement our approach to providing students engaging, relevant and personal learning experiences. His reputation as a leader throughout southwest Missouri is excellent, and we are confident he will be an asset to SPS.”

Dublin was a 2012 recipient of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals/Walsworth Publishing Co. Consummate Professional Award for the group’s southwest district and received the association’s Middle Level Principal of the Year Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

Dublin, whose hiring is contingent upon school board approval, was selected through an interview process that included district and school administrators, according to the release.
