Missouri’s unemployment rate decline stops

The Show-Me State’s unemployment rate held steady in April, ending six straight months of declines.

Last month’s unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, flat from March. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate began falling in October, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The state’s total nonfarm payroll ranks rose by 3,300 jobs from March and by 36,700 jobs from April 2016.

Industry increases in April included:
    •    professional and business services, at 6,100 new jobs from March;
    •    educational and health services, at 5,300; and
    •    financial activities, at 1,500 jobs.

Offsetting industries included leisure and hospitality, at 4,500 less jobs from March; information, at 1,200; and mining, logging and construction, at 1,100, according to data from the DED.
