Audiology clinic to open retail operation at former CPO

Sound Advice Hearing Doctors LLC plans to open a storefront for its business at the former Christian Publishers Outlet.

Chase Britton, co-owner and co-CEO of the company, said Sound Advice is relocating its 1,500-square-foot Springfield clinic in Fox Grape Plaza, 3250 E Battlefield Road, Ste. N, to the 3,200-square-foot space at Twin Oaks Plaza, 4141 S. National Ave.

Sound Advice’s lease represents the largest portion of the former CPO, which has been divided into four suites. The company’s targeting a July grand opening.

“It makes the space more marketable,” said Murney Associates, Realtors agent Timothy Wilson, who’s listed the property for building owner Post Time Properties LLC.

Britton said the Sound Advice clinic and retail store for hearing aids is a similar model to that of LensCrafters for eyewear. The idea, he said, is to launch a venture that’s like a Best Buy or Apple store for hearing aids.

“It’s something new that’s never been done before in our country,” he said.

Sound Advice has faced competition from the likes of big-box retailers Sam’s Club and Costco, Britton said. Sound Advice would display products from all six main hearing aid manufacturers, and customers also would be able to visit the clinic at the same location.

Britton said Sound Advice’s six Springfield employees would relocate to the new building, and the need for additional hires would be evaluated.

CPO, which opened in 1991, operated in the 9,200-square-foot corner of Twin Oaks Plaza until its closing in December. Christian book store Redeemed Books & More - the owners of which previously operated CPO - bought the branding rights that same month. Located across the street at 4140 S. National Ave., Redeemed now utilizes the CPO brand as part of its operations.
