Spielberg’s DreamWorks to leave Disney, possibly for Universal

A 6-year-old DreamWorks distribution deal with Walt Disney Co. is set to expire next summer, and Variety.com reports the companies will not renew.

The last two DreamWorks films Disney is scheduled to release are both directed by Steven Spielberg: Tom Hanks’ Cold War thriller “Bridge of Spies” on Oct. 16 and “The BFG” on July 1. Spielberg co-founded DreamWorks.

Citing unnamed sources, Variety reports DreamWorks is likely to sign with Universal Studios, but no agreement has been reached.
