NYPD to Marvel: Get Spider-Man out of Times Square

The New York City Police Department is formally requesting action from The Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Worldwide Inc. in order to remove costumed performers from Times Square.

Commissioner Bill Bratton said the department asked both companies to sue performers for copyright infringement but the NYPD hasn’t received a response, according to CNNMoney.

Trouble between authorities and performers  – typically appearing in trademarked costumes and earning tips for taking pictures with pedestrians – has begun to brew in recent years due to incidents between costumed characters and passersby, including physical altercations, arrests and accusations of groping.
